Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What does VeriDoc do?
A. VeriDoc is an online medical licensure verification service. VeriDoc acts as an agent of the state medical or osteopathic board to process its written license verification statements (also known as letters of good standing) to be sent to another state medical or osteopathic board. VeriDoc is primarily for use by physicians, or their agents, to send verification of state medical licensure to state medical and osteopathic boards. Physicians usually utilize VeriDoc in conjunction with application for state licensure.
Q. Can VeriDoc send a licensure verification statement to any medical or osteopathic licensure board in the United States?
A. Yes, VeriDoc can send a verification statement to any of the U.S. 66 medical and osteopathic boards located in the continental U.S., as well as the medical and osteopathic boards located in Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands & currently Puerto Rico.
Q. What is a ‘participating board’?
A. A participating board is a state medical or osteopathic board that contracts with VeriDoc to process its license verification statements (also known as letters of good standing). VeriDoc is continually working with new boards. In fact, more should be joining the system shortly. To see a full list of our participating boards, please click here.
Q. How long does it take for a verification to reach the receiving board?
A. Literally, minutes. VeriDoc processes its verifications electronically immediately after the transaction is completed. Once you receive a confirmation number, the verification is sent to an email box at the receiving board’s office that has been specifically designated to receive verifications from VeriDoc.
Q. What does VeriDoc cost and how is the service paid for?
A. Each participating medical and osteopathic board sets its own fee for issuing license verification statements through VeriDoc. A separate verification statement will be produced from each board selected in Step 2 of the process. Since some boards charge more than others, the total fee will depend on: 1) the number of licenses selected for verification; and 2) which board or boards issued the license(s). To see a complete list of our participating boards and their respective fees click here.
Q. Is VeriDoc considered ‘primary source’?
A. Yes. The passing of information through an agent who has a contractual relationship with the approved source (the medical board) meets NCQA standards. VeriDoc is an agent of each of our participating boards by a contractual relationship.
